Mounting Accessories to Your Composite Caravan

A Step-by-Step Guide to Securely Mounting Accessories in Your Caravan

When it comes to enhancing your caravan with additional features or securing  Accessories, it's essential to do so safely and effectively. Here’s how to mount  Accessories to the walls, roof, and floor of your caravan, utilising our 28mm fiberglass and foam composite panels.

Recommended Mounting Methods

1. SikaFlex Adhesive
   - Description: SikaFlex is a high-performance adhesive and sealant that provides strong bonding for various materials.
   - Application: Always use SikaFlex in conjunction with either screws or peel rivets to ensure a secure attachment. Apply SikaFlex to the back of the item, ensuring the surface is clean and dry. Press the item firmly against the surface and allow the adhesive to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions.

2. Peel Rivets (Preferred Method)
   - Description: Peel rivets are ideal for items with a larger surface area, offering a quick and reliable attachment method. we also recommend Sikaflex be used in addition to Peel Rivets.
   - Application: Drill holes for the rivets and insert them as per the manufacturer's guidelines. As with screws, seal around the rivet heads with SikaFlex.

3. Screws
   - Description: Screws can provide a robust and secure mounting method, especially for heavier items. we always recommend Sikaflex be used in addition to Screws
   - Application: Drill pilot holes to prevent cracking, and use screws suitable for fiberglass. Seal the screw heads with SikaFlex to prevent moisture ingress.

Weight Distribution
For items with a small surface area, it's essential to distribute the weight evenly to prevent ripping or damage.
- Use a Backing Plate: If the item you are mounting has a small contact surface, use a backing plate that is SikaFlexed onto the panel. This increases the surface area for bonding and helps distribute the load evenly.

Surface Preparation:

Ensure that all surfaces to be bonded are clean, dry, and free of dust or grease.
- Curing Time: Allow adequate curing time for SikaFlex before putting any weight on the mounted  Accessories.
- Weather Considerations: If mounting externally, choose a suitable day for installation to ensure optimal curing conditions.
