How to safely adjust the drum brakes on your Zone RV
Maintenance and Adjustment:
The electric brakes fitted to your ZONE RV are self-adjusting, but they may require manual adjustment periodically. A well-maintained brake system is essential for safe towing and overall longevity of your RV. Here are some tips to follow when adjusting your drum brakes:
-
Jack up one wheel at a time on a level concrete floor. Chock the opposite wheel and the jockey wheel front and back and release the hand brake. Give the caravan a good push back and forth when it is on the jack to make certain it is stable and safe. Otherwise, hitch up to your tow vehicle. This will ensure that the trailer cannot move during the adjustment process.
-
If installed, remove the two plastic caps on the lower section of the backing plate, using a flat-bladed screwdriver. There is a notched ratchet wheel about 2 cm inside this slot which is the adjuster.
-
Rotate the adjuster in the direction shown in the diagram provided with your RV. Adjust the brakes up until they start to grab on the drums and back them off exactly 10 notches until the wheel rotates freely. This process should be repeated on the other side.
-
Insert a screwdriver into the slot, engage it into the adjuster and lever downwards to adjust up brakes or upwards to release brakes.
Regular inspection and adjustment of drum brakes on your ZONE RV are important to ensure they operate effectively and safely. Always refer to the product manual for further instructions or seek professional assistance when necessary.
