Understanding Stage 4 Airbags: A Comprehensive Guide

A Detailed Overview of Camping Level, Travel Height, and ATX Suspension

Stage 4 Airbags are a significant upgrade for caravans and RVs, providing better stability, handling, and ride quality than their predecessors. However, to make the most of this technology, it is crucial to know how to properly adjust and maintain your Stage 4 Airbag system. In this article, we will discuss three critical aspects of using Stage 4 Airbags - Camping Level, Travel Height, and ATX Suspension - and provide tips and guidelines to help you use your system safely and effectively.

Camping Level

Camping level is an essential factor to ensure maximum comfort and safety while camping with your caravan or RV. The process of adjusting the airbag system for camping level is the same as for Stage 3 Airbags. Follow these steps to adjust your system for camping level:

  1. Lower the airbags until your van is on bump stops.

  2. Raise or lower the nose of the van to have it close to level front to back.

  3. Raise whichever side of the caravan is low using the up control on the Cruisemaster panel.

  4. Once you are happy with the level, shut off the compressor and put your stabilizer legs down.

Note that if the compressor has been off for some time, it will need a few minutes to fill the air tank before you can pump the airbags up.

Travel Height

The Stage 4 set up automatically sets the travel height for towing your ZONE RV. However, it is still essential to check the bump stop clearance measurements from time to time to ensure that the auto function is setting it correctly. The PSI should be between 45 and 60 for tandem axle and up to 80 max for single axle. If you need to adjust your automatic height adjustment, follow these steps:

  1. Set your clearance to the correct dimension.

  2. Loosen the bolt so the rod slides to the new position.

  3. Re-tighten the bolt.

  4. Lower the bags down manually.

  5. Return the selection switch to auto.

  6. Re-measure the bump stop clearance.

Note that if the control arm is damaged in any way, the measurement will be incorrect and can cause damage.

ATX Suspension

The ATX Suspension is a critical part of your Stage 4 Airbag system, and its proper measurement is crucial for safe and efficient travel. The measurement for ATX Suspension is from the bump stop to the swing arm, and it should measure 55mm.
