Understanding the Electrical Systems in your ZONE RV

Tips to help you maintain and operate your ZONE RV's electrical systems safely and efficiently - Sojourn & Peregrine

ZONE RV caravans are designed with sophisticated electrical systems that allow you to enjoy all the comforts of home while on the road. However, it's important to understand how these systems work and how to operate and maintain them safely and efficiently. This article provides an overview of the electrical systems in your ZONE RV and some tips to help you get the most out of them.

Electrical Certificate

All ZONE RV caravans are supplied with a non-prescribed Electrical Certificate. This certificate ensures that the installation and testing of 240V cabling and components are completed by a qualified electrician. Any changes to the system will void the certification and 240V warranty.

12V Power System

The 12V power system in your ZONE RV is run from the battery and controlled/monitored by the RED VISION display. This system powers the Sirocco fans, entertainment, roof fans, airbag controls, water pumps, and fridge, along with the 12V outlets. The REDVISION display will tell you the Amps in or Amps out depending on whether you have more or less charge than you are using. To check your charge, turn off all 12V appliances (including fridge) and read the gauge.

Lithium batteries have their own fail-safe and can be drained until the low voltage cut-out initiates, but this is not recommended. To reconnect after the low voltage cut-out has engaged (will show 0 volts on readouts), a charge voltage of ≥12.8V must be applied to the battery BEFORE the low voltage cut-out will deactivate and allow charge current to flow into the battery.

Inverter

The inverter in your ZONE RV converts the battery's 12V power to 240V power. Using 240V appliances on the inverter will drain your battery. Generally, there are three points in your ZONE RV that are not run by your inverter: air conditioner, 240V power point under the fridge (for fridge and hot water), and the power point under your seat for the 240V charger.

240V Power System

The 240V system in your ZONE RV is available only if you have 240V power plugged in from an external source or you have optioned up to have a 3000W inverter. This can be at a caravan park or from your generator. This will automatically provide power to all 240V outlets in your van, 240V power point under the seat (for AC charger), A/C, washing machine, hot water service, and fridge.

Important Information

If supplying 240V to your ZONE RV with a generator, you will need to load shed. This means turning off the 240V power point under the fridge. If using a low-capacity generator, you may need to turn off the 240V point under the seat for the battery charger if you want to run your A/C.

Understanding and maintaining your ZONE RV's electrical systems is essential for a safe and enjoyable trip. By following these tips, you can keep your electrical systems running efficiently and effectively, so you can focus on enjoying your adventures.
