Understanding the Water Connection Manifold and Maintenance for Your Caravan (Off Road Caravan Models)

A Guide to Filling, Maintaining, and Draining Your Water Tanks

Your caravan water tanks and connection manifold are essential components for any camping or traveling experience. In this article, we will cover the location of the water connection manifold, how to fill your water tanks, maintenance procedures, and draining your water tanks.

Water Connection Manifold:

The water connection manifold in your caravan is located on the driver's side behind the rear wheel. This is where you will find the inlet for filling your water tanks, as well as the bungs for draining them.

Filling Your Water Tanks:

Before filling your water tanks, check the tank gauge on your display to ensure they are not already full. The levels are not progressive and will only show percentages. Plug a hose onto the inlet for the tank you wish to fill and visually inspect it when filling to ensure the breathers are not blocked, and the tank isn't expanding.

Do not fill the tanks with full mains pressure, only use half pressure by partially opening the tap. This ensures that the breathers on top of the tanks can keep up with the amount of water entering the tank, and you will not damage any of the fittings. Keep an eye on the level display to make sure the correct tank is filling, and you do not overfill the tank.

If you overfill the tank, water will be forced out the tank breathers and onto the ground. If this happens, stop filling the tank and give it time to relieve the pressure.

Maintenance:

Periodically wash off the top of your tanks to remove any build-up of dust/dirt that may accumulate after long periods of dirt road travel. Also, inspect the tank breathers for obstruction and keep rubber caps on the inlet connectors when not in use.

Pump Operation:

The pump will engage when any tap is turned on. Note that the pump is not required when on mains pressure as it is bypassed straight through the filter.

Draining Your Water Tanks:

Each water tank has its own bung that can be removed. They are located on the side underneath the chassis. Simply unscrew them anti-clockwise to let the water flow out. When replacing the bung, ensure it is done up hand tight only. Do not use a tool as you may strip the bung thread.

Conclusion:

Understanding the water connection manifold and maintenance procedures for your caravan's water tanks is crucial to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. Regularly checking for obstructions and performing routine maintenance will keep your water tanks functioning optimally.
